LABC Registered Details

Offering designers and contractors design details that streamline the building control process

Offering designers and contractors design details that streamline the building control process

LABC Registered Details enable developers, architects, designers, technical specifiers and contractors to register or use existing design details to minimise the building control checking and approvals process.

Scope and benefits

Like the previous scheme, LABC Registered Details enables all local authority building control surveyors to share technical details and to recognise the building control decisions made by others in the LABC network.

This means that once a 'Registration' has been given through one local authority it will be recognised by all LABC surveyors in England & Wales.

The scheme is specifically designed for use within the LABC network. The benefit to LABC surveyors is that technical research does not need to be repeated time after time by different local authorities.

The benefit for LABC's customers is that the use of Registered Details streamlines Building Regulations applications and saves time (and money).

LABC is not a testing house and does not provide certification - in fact submissions will be required to demonstrate technical performance and achievement of recognised standards by supplying test certificates and other proofs of performance.

Through LABC Registered Details, LABC will measure a design, system or solution against the Building Regulations and judge whether, if used correctly in the defined way, compliance with the Building Regulations will be achieved.

Three types of Registered Details

1. LABC Registered Solutions

These are solutions offered by manufacturers and installers to "typical" problems or requirements, usually arising from Building Regulations. They may be simple or complicated and are usually solved by an innovative manufactured solution.

However, because building designs are often unique and affected by site specific factors, solutions can't be applied universally. Therefore, LABC surveyors can download a full explanation of the "problem/solution," obtain all the relevant supporting technical information ( eg lab test data, field test data, certification etc) and obtain a "checklist" of issues that need to be verified on each particular site or project.

This list provides items that need to be established during the plan check and site visits and covers issues such as construction sequencing and typical workmanship issues.

2. LABC Registered Systems

LABC Registered Systems used to be known as "LABC Systems Approvals" and they are a tried and tested way of saving time and money.

These are elements of a building that are constructed or installed in practically the same way on any site or project (whereas LABC Registered Solutions will vary according to site specific design requirements, LABC Registered Systems will have little variation).

3. LABC Registered Building Types

LABC Registered Building Types used to be known as "LABC Building Type Approval" or "LABC House Type Approvals."

These are a single design approval, from a  by house builders, however they are also relevant to other replicated designs used in the industrial, commercial and retail sectors.

Registered Details Manual

LABC have produced both an in-depth manual and step-by-step guides detailing the procedures for the registration process.
