Building Control in Northern Ireland and Scotland
What happens outside England and Wales?
Within Northern Ireland (NI) the building control function is entirely administered and enforced by the local authority district councils. Currently the Northern Ireland model of building control does not have Approved Inspectors or self-certification as experienced within England and Wales.
Recognising that NI does not exist within a vacuum, the local authority district councils for many years have acted and provided a service to their varied customer base as if those customers had a choice. All district councils are committed to providing and achieving business excellence and all are active in implementing business plans that incorporate in many instances externally accredited initiatives such as Charter Mark, ISO 9002, EFQM, and IIP.
